Bible Reading for Today

Proverbs 8

Bible Verse for Today

“Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth,
before he had made the earth with its fields,
or the first of the dust of the world.
When he established the heavens, I was there;”

Proverbs 8:25-27a

Devotion for Today

Age-Old Wisdom

Jesus is the wisdom of God (1 Cor 1:24). So it’s no surprise that He was there before the mountains had been shaped. Before the hills. Before the fields. Before there was even dust on the ground Jesus was. He is eternal and was in the beginning with God the father. He is as old (older still) as the heavens. Is that a concept you can grasp?

With all that He is, it amazes me still that the wisdom of God was to die for my sins. And for yours. Knowing we could never bring ourselves back to a right relationship with our creator, our creator chose to pay the price of our sinful rebellion. He paid with His life to give me mine. That’s a wisdom that’s as old as the ages, but relevant still.

God’s Word is living and active (Heb 4:12) and Jesus is the wisdom and Word of God (John 1:1). Jesus died for our sins, but then He rose. He is living and active and plays a vital roll in our lives. He is the beginning and the end, not just of creation, but of us. He formed us in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13), saved us from our sin (Romans 10:13), and loves us more than we could ever imagine (John 15:9). Knowing all of that is truly wisdom for the ages.
