Devotion for Today

When we come to Christ, He makes us new… but that doesn’t make us insta-perfect.

In fact, when we become Christians, it’s only the beginning of God’s work in our lives.

When writing to the Roman church, Paul confessed: “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing” (7:19).

Have you ever been there?

Have you ever struggled to do the right thing or found yourself stuck in a destructive pattern of sin?

If so, I have some good news for you:

First, your sins are 100% forgiven. Even when you still struggle with them.

Second, the fact that you’re aware of your sin is a sign of growth. We have to know we sin before we can turn from it.

Third, God is still working in you. With His help, you can overcome anything (Romans 8:37).

Philippians 2:12-13 says, “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

That’s what God wants from us. Just keep doing the next right thing and lean into Jesus. Our redeemer lives.
