Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly ~ Colossians 3:16

Because He Lives His Mercies Are New

ByHeather Hart

Because He Lives His Mercies Are New Every Morning.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

Devotion for Today

You can’t out-sin the blood of Jesus. There will never be a day where God says you’ve gone too far, or your sin was too big. He will never tell you you’ve strayed too far or done too much. God will never look at you and shake His head in disappointment. He will never turn His back and walk away.

Once we come to a saving faith in Christ, that’s it. We are sealed for all eternity. We become part of God’s family and He calls us His own. Not just when we’re crushing the Christian life, but when we’re beat down, ashamed, and weary.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus was recorded as saying, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners” (vv. 9:12-13).

So often we come to Jesus by faith and then try to tell Him we’ll take it from there. But Paul wrote to the church in Galatia, “Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” We will never be a “perfect Christian” because there is no such thing. If there was, Jesus wouldn’t have needed to come earth as our Savior.

But we do need Jesus. Not just once, we need His mercy every morning and frequently throughout the day. Thankfully, because He is risen, He is always there for us. His blood has us covered whether we are on a mountain or in a valley—whether we are struggling, striving, or surviving.

Our redeemer lives.
