Because He Lives There is No Condemnation

ByHeather Hart

Because He Lives There is No Condemnation

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1

Devotion for Today

Romans 3:23 tells us that we have all sinned and fallen short the glory of God. James wrote that whoever knows the right thing to do, and fails to do it, that it’s a sin. But here’s what I love: Romans 8:1 tells us that there is no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus.

We all sin, make mistakes, and fail to live for Jesus on a daily basis—but that’s why Jesus came. That’s why He lived a sinless life and died a sinner’s death. He died because of His great love for us.

The wages of sin is death, but that’ why Jesus died for us. He died to pay our ransom.

Sin entered the world back in the garden, but it was defeated in the grave. Death couldn’t hold Jesus, because Jesus never sinned. He paid the price for our sin and then He rose again.

On the cross when Jesus died, His last words were “It is finished” (John 19:30). Because of Him, we stand forgiven. There is no condemnation for us, because of Jesus’ saving work on the cross and the empty tomb.

Do you ever need that reminder?

I do.

It’s so easy to beat ourselves up, isn’t it? It’s easy to see our own flaws and failures. But when we refocus our hearts on the One who died to save us, it’s a beautiful reminder that we are already and always forgiven.

I don’t know what you’re battling with today, but I pray that you are able to lean into the forgiveness Jesus offers.

I want to close today’s devotional with words from the book of John: ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (3:16-17).

Our redeemer lives.
