Devotion for Today
I’ve done a lot of things in my life that I regret. I’ve made mistakes, and purposely made decisions that didn’t line up with God’s Word. I’ve sinned against others and against God. But that’s why I love the promise that God is making us new.
Ephesians 4:21-24 says this:
…as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Because Jesus lives, He can help us become more like Him each and every day. We aren’t doomed to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. He is with us and can help us overcome our sinful ways. As Romans 3:37 says, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Do you need that truth today?
Yes, we all have stuff in our past we aren’t proud of. It might be something we did 20 years ago, or it might be something we did this morning. Whatever it is, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are working in us to help us overcome the grasp that sin has on us.
The old is gone and we are already and always forgiven.
Our redeemer lives.
