Because He Lives We Belong to Jesus
Because He Lives We Belong to Jesus
But now thus says the Lord,
Isaiah 43:1
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.”
Devotion for Today
Today’s verse is one of my favorites. Just the reminder that the God created and formed us, also redeemed us and calls us His own. I don’t think there’s a better promise in all of Scripture.
We have all sinned against God. We’ve rebelled against His will for our lives, but He loves us so much that He sent Jesus to redeem us. He became Immanuel, God with us, and then died so we could be forgiven.
When we were beyond help, beyond the hope of salvation, God made a way. Luke reminds us that nothing is impossible for God (1:37).
After Isaiah 43:1 comes Isaiah 43:2:
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
Because God has saved us and called us His own, we can face anything life throws our way. As I always say: life is hard, but God is good. He will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8), because we belong to Him.
The God who created the stars created us, too. And He didn’t just create us, He loves us enough to call us His own—not like a master lording over His servants, but as His beloved children.
John 1:12 tells us, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
I don’t know where today finds you, but I pray you remember that the God who created every person who has ever walked the earth has called you by name.
Our redeemer lives.
