Because He Lives We Can Love Like Jesus
Because He Lives We Can Love Like Jesus
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
John 13:34
Devotion for Today
If Jesus was simply a man who lived and died thousands of years ago, there would be no reason for us to do what He said. Why would it matter?
But Jesus didn’t just die 2,000 years ago. He also rose.
He is the living God, the Savior of all who call on His name. (1 Timothy 4:10, Romans 10:13).
When we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we are ushered into everlasting life with God.
1 John 2:6 tells us that, “whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” In other words, if we belong to Jesus, we should live the way He lived.
And Jesus lived a life of love for everyone around Him.
Because God is love (1 John 4:8) we are called to love everyone around us, too.
And we can do it.
We can love the unlovable when we allow Jesus to work in our hearts.
We can let Him actively love others through us when we surrender to His will and keep our focus on Him.
Loving others isn’t easy, but in Matthew 19:26, Jesus reminds us that, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
We can love others the way Jesus loves them because we have the living Christ in us.
Our redeemer lives.
