Because He Lives We Don’t Have To Fear Death
Because He Lives We Don’t Have To Fear Death
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
John 11:25
Devotion for Today
We’re all going to die. It’s just a matter of when.
That’s probably not the encouraging word you were hoping for this morning. But it’s true. Death comes to us all. It even came to Jesus.
Jesus, being God Himself, died on the cross.
And then He rose.
Death couldn’t hold him because He didn’t’ deserve it. He had no sin, but died in our place. He took our sins upon Himself and then He defeated the grave.
That’s why, even though we’ll all die someday, we will get to live forever with Him.
Death won’t hold us either.
Paul wrote to the Philippians, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (1:21). And that’s true for us, too.
We don’t have to fear death, because we know what waits for us on the other side. We won’t cease to be, we won’t be faced with eternal torment, we will meet Jesus face-to-face. And I, for one, cannot wait until that day.
Second Corinthians 1:22-23 tell us that when we come to Christ, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit as a guarantee that we belong to Jesus. That seal is unbreakable. Romans 8 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. So if you belong to Jesus, you have no reason to fear death. Instead, we can look forward to the day we are united with Christ.
Our redeemer lives.
