Bible Besties | Joseph
Today’s Bible Besties devotion is about Joseph.
Whatever you do, work heartedly, as for the Lord and not for men.
Colossians 3:23
Devotion for Today
Joseph had a hard lot in life. When he was born, he was the favorite child. He was completely spoiled by his parents. Because of this, he was despised by his brothers. When they had the opportunity, they sold him to some Egyptians.
Just like that, he went from highly favored to a random slave.
You’ve probably never had that experience, but we’ve all found ourselves in unpleasant situations.
When Joseph found himself there, he didn’t wallow in self-pity as we are often tempted to do. Instead, he made the best of his situation.
Joseph worked hard and became the head over his master’s household… Until his bosses wife accused him of misconduct. Then he was thrown in prison.
Just like that, he went from a place of prestige to a prisoner.
Again, you’ve probably never found yourself in jail, but we’ve all had the rug pulled out from under our feet at some point in our lives. And it will happen again. The question is how will we handle it?
Will we be like Joseph and keep pressing into Jesus? Will we keep taking the next right step, even when all hope seems lost?
That’s what Joseph did. Even in the prison he lived in a way that honored God and was promoted to head prisoner and given the responsibility to look after the other prisoners.
Joseph is such an encouragement to me. He reminds me to lean into Jesus and work heartily as if unto the Lord and not men. Do you need that reminder today?
* Josephs story can be found in Genesis 37, 39-48
