Bible Besties | Mary of Bethany
Today’s Bible Besties devotion is about Mary of Bethany.
But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:42
Devotion for Today
Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening to His teaching. That’s what she’s famous for. Jesus told her sister that she chose the necessary thing. The good portion. And I wonder how often that’s what we choose.
All too often, I rush through my day. I read my devotional and a chapter in my Bible, but I forget to slow down and actually spend time at the feet of Jesus.
Do you ever find yourself there?
If so, Mary is the best Bible Bestie to remind us to slow down and take it all in. She reminds us that even more than serving others, it’s spending time with Jesus that really matters.
We can’t pour from an empty cup, no matter how hard we strive to do so. In the end, we’ll end up bitter like Mary’s sister Martha. We’ll look at all the people who spend time at the feet of Jesus and we’ll find ourselves a bit put out that they could be doing so well when we’re the ones striving so hard.
Have you ever been there?
Is that something you can relate to?
Because for me, it is.
Which is why I love Mary so much. She reminds me that the necessary thing is Jesus. And I hope today she reminds you of the same thing today.
