Bible Besties | Shem & Japheth
Today’s Bible Besties devotion is about Shem & Japheth.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
John 15:12
Devotion for Today
Their dad was passed out drunk. Ham thought it was hilarious and told his brothers, Shem and Japheth.
Only they didn’t laugh.
Instead, they discretely covered their father and left him to sleep it off.
As we go through life we have the choice to be friends with Ham or his brothers. We can choose to mock those who mess up or minister to them.
The world would be a better place if more of us were friends with Shem and Japheth.
If instead of looking down on those who make mistakes, Shem and Japheth encourage us to love them anyway. Which is exactly what Jesus commanded us to do. To love one another the way He loves us (John 15:12).
And they didn’t just do the right thing, they withstood the peer pressure from their brother to join in on mocking their father with him.
They didn’t just do the right thing, they stood up for the right thing. That small distinction makes a big difference.
Those we surround ourselves with won’t always make good choices, but we can do the right thing, even when it’s not the popular one.
James 4:17 says, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
So I encourage you to hang out with Shem and Japheth. They make great friends and even better role models.
