Bible Besties | Zacchaeus
Today’s Bible Besties devotion is about Zacchaeus.
“Today salvation has come to this house,” Jesus told him, “because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:9-10
Devotion for Today
Zacchaeus was short. Jesus of Nazareth had come, but he was too short to see Him through the crowd.
Therefore, Zacchaeus climbed a tree to get a better viewpoint. It was quite ingenious, really.
Here’s where it gets good.
When Jesus passed by Zacchaeus, He looked u p and told him to come down, because He was going to the house.
Now, if you grew up in church, you might be tempted to start singing about now. Because Zacchaeus was a wee little man and all. But I don’t want us to miss the heart of this story.
Zacchaeus was willing to do whatever it took to see Jesus. He sought Him out.
And Jesus saw him.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
That’s what happened to Zacchaeus, but the same is true for Jesus.
When was the last time you went out of your way to see Jesus?
* You can read the story about Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10.
