1 Peter 2:6

Christmas Cornerstone

It is hard to imagine how a baby can change the world, but just one tiny infant can change everything. Not just in the lives of their parents, but beyond. Every person who has ever lived (save for Adam and Eve), started life as an infant. Queen Elizabeth, Tomas Edison, Saint Nicolas of Myra, we are all knit together in our mother’s wombs, and begin life as helpless babes. How fitting that our Savior was no different.

He existed before time began; God eternal. He walked in the garden with Adam and Eve, wrestled with Jacob, camped outside of Abraham’s home, and rescued Lot from Sodom and Gomora.  Yet our Savior still came to Earth to live as we lived, born as a baby, and hung on a cross. Not because He had to, but because that’s how much He loves us.

That’s what we celebrate at Christmas—God became man. The Everlasting Father as a helpless child. Jesus is the cornerstone of Christmas. Without Him, Christmas wouldn’t exist. We may or may not keep Him at the center of our holiday, but regardless of our focus, it’s all because of Him. Christmas, by definition, is Christ’s Mass. It’s the celebration of the life of Christ that all started in a manger.

But Jesus isn’t just the cornerstone of Christmas, He is the cornerstone of our faith. Without Jesus there would be no Christians and life as I know it wouldn’t exist. Because Christ came into the world, everything has changed. One baby in a manger became one King on a cross.

Christmas is at the very heart of our faith. Jesus is our foundation. He is the Lord of our lives and King of our hearts. He is the alpha and omega; beginning and end. But even beyond that He is our friend, refuge, healer, anchor, redeemer, and so much more. Jesus is all that we need.

As I prepare to celebrate this Christmas, that’s what I keep coming back to. It’s all about Jesus. He is the foundation, and He is the goal.

Jesus was born in a manger, but He lives in our hearts. My prayer is that with each passing day I become more like Him. Christmas is coming and all I want is more of Jesus. It may sound cliché, but just give me Jesus for Christmas this year.

Jesus was born in a manger, but He lives in our hearts. Share on X
