Christmas is Still Coming

In Geneses, God spoke the world into being. He laid the foundation and planned for salvation. In the gospels, Jesus came to fulfill God’s promises; He came to redeem us. Jesus reassures us that we can have peace because of what He did for us no matter what comes our way.

In John 16:33 He said, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” That is an amazing promise. But there is also a lot of truth to the tribulations we will face.

Ephesians 6:12 tells us that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” There is still a battle going on. We live in it every day. Yet at the very end of the Bible, we learn even more. While we are still fighting battles, we know that Jesus wins the war.

We can hope for tomorrow because we know we can take God at His Word. This world is not all there is. Over two thousand years ago, Jesus was born in a manger. It was all part of God’s grand redemption plan. A plan that hinged on Jesus. But that manger was just the beginning. Christmas is just the beginning.

After Christmas came the cross. Jesus died and rose again, for us. And while He finished His saving work on that cross, He is coming again. Christmas is still coming. One day Jesus will come riding on the clouds and He will wipe away every tear from every eye and there will be a new Heaven and a new Earth. We will finally achieve the perfection that hasn’t existed since Adam and Eve.

I hope we get to walk with Jesus in the garden as they did. I don’t care about streets of gold; I just can’t wait to see Jesus face-to-face. The Christmas we celebrate now can’t even compare to second coming of Christ.

While Christmas may have come and gone once again, we can know that Christmas is still coming. This Christmas isn’t all there is. Today isn’t all there is. But because of Christmas we have hope for tomorrow, and the promise things yet to come.
