Devotion for Today: Forgiven

ByHeather Hart

The devotion for today is designed to help you dig into God’s Word, spend time with the One who created you, and let Jesus invade your life.

Bible Verse for Today

“I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake.”

1 John 2:12

Devotion for Today

“Love Like Jesus.” That’s what my t-shirt said. My mouth, on the other hand, was spewing venom.

We had just driven 45 minutes to our eye doctor for my daughter’s appointment only to have them tell us there had been a mix up and she was scheduled to be seen in their other office. An office which was an hour in the opposite direction.

They didn’t apologize for the inconvenience. They just told us the only thing they could do was reschedule. And I was mad.

I wanted to tell them they lost our business and our family of six would find a new eye doctor… but my daughter needed glasses, and I already knew there were no other clinics that took our insurance nearby. So I rescheduled. But I made sure they knew I was unhappy, not that it seemed to phase them one bit.

We were halfway home when I realized I failed to shine the light of Jesus during that exchange. Worse yet, my t-shirt proclaimed me to be a Christian. I wanted to crawl into a hole. I was still angry, but now I was also disappointed in myself.

Have you ever been there?

I’m normally a roll with the punches kind of gal, but when my temper flares it isn’t pretty.

But here’s the thing, even when I fail to love like Jesus, Jesus still loves me.

Yes, I had to repent. But I was already and always forgiven because I belong to Jesus. So wherever today finds you, I pray that you remember you are already and always forgiven, too.

Prayer for Today

Father God, thank You for loving me so much. Thank You for forgiving me when I mess up. When I’m so consumed with myself that I forget to be a reflection of You.
