Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly ~ Colossians 3:16

God Knows Our Thoughts

ByHeather Hart

You are reading the “Known & Loved” devotional series.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Devotion for Today

I struggled with chronic migraines for seven years. And I still struggle with them, just not to the same extent.

This one Sunday in church, we were singing, King of My Heart, and we got to the chorus where it says, “You’re never gonna let me down,” And I just stopped singing.

I did feel let down by God.

My head hurt so bad and healing was nowhere in sight. I had praised God through the pain for years. He had brought me through so much, but the pain was wearing me down.

Have you ever been there?

Just kind of worn down by life?

Maybe you’re feeling defeated or mourning the loss of a loved one. Wherever life finds you, you aren’t waving pom-poms or doing a happy dance.

Here’s the thing: life is hard, but God is good.

Romans 8:28 says, “we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

We can know that truth even when life is hard.

Even though I didn’t understand why my head hurt so bad for so long, I could trust God with my future. He hadn’t really let me down, I just couldn’t see the whole picture—we very rarely do.

In hindsight, my migraine journey allowed me to encourage thousands of people who were struggling to keep going. I was able to witness to nurses in two different hospitals. I wrote a book about clinging to Jesus when you’re in pain. And there were just so many other things God has done through me that I probably don’t even realize.

First Corinthians 13:12 tells us, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

I don’t know what you’re going through right now, but I know God is good and I know He will face every battle you go through right by your side.

The last thing Jesus said before ascending into heaven was, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” That was a promise we can cling to. No matter what life throws our way, no matter how bad life gets, we are loved by Jesus.
