How Far the East is From the West | A New Year’s Eve Devotion
As far as the East is from the West is a new year’s eve devotional.
…as far as the east is from the west,
Psalm 103:12
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Before I even woke up this final day of the year, many countries around the world had already rung in the new year. As I continue to watch the clocks pass midnight, signaling the start of the new year, I’m reminded just how far the east is from the west.
Psalm 103:12 tells us that as far as the East is from the West, that’s how far God has removed our sins from us. While it is still 2025 here in Texas, the dawn of not just a new day, but a new year has already come and gone for some.
So those sins or struggles you’ve battled this year? They have come and gone as well.
Sometimes it feels like our sins and struggles have a grip on us that we just can’t shake. In times like those, we can simply remember how far the East is from the West. And also remember that the world is still turning.
Whether your year is drawing to a close or just beginning, God is there. He was there yesterday and He will be there tomorrow. He is here now and beyond the horizon. And He has the power to remove your sins and struggles from one moment to the next.
It doesn’t matter how often we fail. When we feel defeated–when we feel like we’ll never rise above–God is there to remind us that His mercies are new every morning.
