Devotion for Today
Jesus Intercedes for Us
In the time before Jesus, people had to go through a priest or prophet to hear from God or to let their requests be made known. But that’s not so anymore. Jesus is our Great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14) and He intercedes on our behalf. When He died on the cross, the curtain in the temple was torn in two. It was designed to separate ordinary people from the glory of God. But we don’t need that anymore because of Jesus.
Jesus is uniquely qualified to be our mediator because He is fully man, yet fully God. He walked on the earth, and He knows what temptation is like. He knows what it is to struggle (Matthew 8:20). Hebrews 4:15 reminds us, “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Jesus knows the struggle is real, and He loves us anyway.
Because of Jesus, the Holy Spirit came to live in our heart and He knows our prayers before they are even formed on our lips (Matthew 6:33). When we don’t know how to pray, He prays for us (Romans 8:25-27). We don’t need a lot of flowery words (Matthew 6:5-7). All we need to do is turn our heart to Jesus. That’s why I’m thankful for Jesus today.

Father God, thank You for providing a mediator between us and You. Thank You for bridging the gap that lay between us so You can hear us when we pray.
