In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1
Devotion for Today
Jesus is The Word of God
Jesus is God’s mouthpiece. When God spoke the world into existence, that was Jesus. When Adam and Eve walked with God in the cool of the day, that was Jesus. When Moses spoke to the burning bush—Jesus. Jesus was on Mount Moriah with Abraham. Jesus is the mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5).
We call the Bible the Word of God because that’s what it is. Second Timothy 3:16 tells us that all of Scripture was breathed out by God. It’s got Jesus’ fingerprints all over it. Which is why I’m so thankful for Jesus. We don’t just get to read about Him in God’s Word; we get to experience Him. He speaks to our heart as we read with our eyes.
God’s Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12) just like Jesus, because it is Jesus. We can have a real relationship with Jesus through His Word. He can speak into our hearts and lives on a daily basis. Minute by minute, we can come to Jesus with whatever is going on in our lives. I’m so thankful we don’t have a God that is silent, but a God who speaks. So today, I’m thankful that Jesus is the Word of God.
