Devotion for Today
Jesus Loves Us
I was talking to someone on the phone the other day who didn’t think God could love her. Have you ever been there? Have you ever wondered how God could love a sinner like you?
The truth is that it doesn’t matter who we are or what we’ve done. It doesn’t matter how successful we are, what we look like, or any other condition we can think up. He loves us unconditionally. He loves us because it’s who He is (1 John 4:8).
When Jesus was hanging on the cross, He was loving those who put Him there (Luke 23:34). He loved the criminals beside Him (Luke 23:39-43), and He loves us (Romans 5:8).
I take so much comfort in that. When God created us, He created us with a deep-seated need to be loved, a need only He could fill. And He can fill it. When we’re alone, He is with us, loving us through it. When we fail, He loves us through it. When we are worn out, He loves us through it.
That’s the God we have. And that’s something to be thankful for.
Prayer of Gospel Gratitude
Father God, thank You for loving me, even when I don’t deserve it, because I can’t deserve it. I will never be enough to earn Your love, but You love me anyway. Thank You for that. Help me to remember that Your love is unfailing.
