Kingdom Citizenship
Imagine for a moment that you are an ambassador for your country, stationed in a foreign land. You live there, interact with its people, and engage with its culture, but always remember that you represent your home country. You are there to establish good relations, promote mutual understanding, and uphold your country’s interests.
As followers of Christ, we too are ambassadors, but of a different kind. According to Philippians 3:20, our true citizenship is in Heaven. While we live on Earth, we’re actually representing Heaven. We’re here to build bridges, foster peace, share the good news, and uphold the interests of our King.
This understanding changes our perspective. We’re not just aimlessly wandering through life; we’re on a mission. We’re not driven by worldly standards of success or happiness; we seek to fulfill our heavenly mandate. And while we face challenges like any other person, we navigate them with the hope and assurance of our eternal home. Being a citizen of heaven doesn’t detach us from the realities of this world. Instead, it helps us engage with it more purposefully, lovingly, and hopefully. So, let’s embrace our Kingdom citizenship, living as faithful ambassadors of our King, eagerly awaiting His return.
