Mercies New

ByHeather Hart

This devotional series is called Mercies New. It’s a companion devotional series that goes with my 30-Day December Scripture Writing Plan, Mercy & Grace. You can get a copy to print and follow along here.

Introducing Mercies New

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’

Lamentations 3:22-24

God’s mercies are new every morning—that’s what Jeremiah wrote in the book of Lamentations. He also reminded us that because God’s mercies are new each morning, we can confidently put our hope in Him.

The truth is: life is hard. Even when we believe in Jesus, things don’t always go our way. We are going to stumble and fall. But, because of Jesus, we can confidently say that while life is hard, God is good.

We don’t have to walk through life on our own with our mistakes, shortcomings, and failures piling up and weighing us down. Because of Jesus we are forgiven.

We are washed by His blood and when God looks at us, He sees the righteousness of Christ. Psalm 103:12 says, “as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” That’s what God’s mercy does. It makes us new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Each morning when we wake up, we are given a fresh start. God’s mercy never fails, and we are continually washed clean by the blood of Christ.

But it’s not just in the morning. Every breath we take, we take by the grace of God. The blood of Christ covers us each and every time we stumble. There is no condemnation for those of us who belong to Jesus. That’s a promise from God’s Word (Romans 8:1). I don’t know what your life looks like right now. I don’t know the trials you are going through or what you’re struggling with, but I do know the truth of God’s Word.

That’s what I want to share with you through this devotional series. I want to share encouragement that no matter how bad it seems, God’s mercy is new every moment. He is faithful and you can place your hope in Him.
