Overcome at the Feet of Jesus

They had never been so happy to see Jesus. The women had set out to visit His tomb, but instead they encountered their risen Savior. Quite simply overcome, all they could do was fall at His feet and worship Him.

And I wonder, when was the last time you found yourself there? Completely overcome by how great our God is?

For me, it’s easy to get so caught up in loving Jesus that I forget His holiness. I know Jesus is my Savior and forget that He was and is the living God (1 Timothy 4:10). He invites us to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7) … but He is also worthy of all our praise (Revelation 5:12). I know my righteousness comes from Christ (Romans 3:21-22) and forget just how righteous He is (Psalm 71:16).

Jesus is the lamb of God (John 1:29) and the lion of Judah alike (Revelation 5:5). He lives in my heart (2 Corinthians 13:5), but He is also coming again (Revelation 1:7). On that day, every knee will bow, and tongue will confess that He is God (Philippians 2:10).

Jesus is nothing short of amazing and He gave His life for ours (John 15:13 and 1 John 3:16). Doesn’t that just make you want to stand in awe at the feet of Jesus?

The women who met Jesus at the tomb were overcome with love for Him and astounded by His resurrection. I think that sometimes it’s something we miss when our lives are permeated with Christ. I grew up in church, so to me, Jesus has always been a fact of life. The grass is green, roses are red, and Jesus loves me. But the danger in that is that we miss the magnificence of it all.

I love the account of the ascension in the book of Acts (1:6-11). Next to it, I have written “Don’ just read the words. Behold the mighty works of God.” Do you ever need that reminder?

Can you put yourself in the shoes of the women at the tomb? They expected a grave, but they were met by the Messiah. Take a moment to really take that in.
