Devotion for Today

Personal Wisdom

“What are you known for?” That’s the note I have written in my Bible next to this verse in Proverbs.

We are all known for something. It’s like those meme’s that go around Facebook from time to time that say something like, “Finish this sentence: Everyone who knows me, knows I love _________.” I want the answer to that question to be Jesus. But the truth is that we are all known for a lot of things. You might be well known for your affection for cows, your love of pumpkin spice, or even your work ethic. But do others know you are a Christian?

John 13:35 says, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Are you known for your love for others? Or even your love for Jesus? I know I didn’t use to be. I was caught up in various things that I loved. I was known for working at Pizza Hut, being a wife, and I’m sure there were other things I was known for as well. Those aren’t bad things to be known for, but Jesus wasn’t even on my list even though I considered myself a Christian. So that’s where we are today, are you known for your love for Jesus? How can you cultivate your life so that it points others to Christ?
