ByHeather Hart

Sound Wisdom is the devotion for today. It’s designed to help you dig into God’s Word, spend time with the One who created you, and let Jesus invade your life.

Bible Reading for Today

Proverbs 3

Bible Verse for Today

“My son, do not lose sight of these—keep sound wisdom and discretion…
Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble…
for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”

Proverbs 3:21, 23, 26

Devotion for Today

Sound Wisdom

I love that Solomon took the time to point out that not all wisdom is sound. You can know something to be true, but not beneficial. You can think something is true but come to find out it’s not. You can yearn for something to be true, but still know that it isn’t.

I thought today would be a good day to pause and look at the definition of wisdom. Google defines wisdom as “the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment.”

We can learn a lot by doing. The more life we experience, the wiser we become. However, we can’t let that wisdom ruin our good judgment. We must use our wisdom with discernment. Wisdom should be accompanied by the fruit of the Spirit. The two grow from the same foundation. That foundation is Jesus.

Knowing we belong to Jesus can give us confidence, but it shouldn’t make us cocky. It should propel us to live more like Jesus. Wisdom should well up springs of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control within us. When our wisdom makes us more like Jesus, that’s when it will help us walk in our way securely. Wisdom can become our confidence and help us to be the people God created us to be.
