Devotion for Today
The Call to Humility
Imagine a world where the rule is ‘survival of the humblest.’ It’s a place where being down-to-earth is the norm, and the one who can tie their own shoelaces while helping someone else wins the day.
Sounds like a refreshing change from ‘survival of the fittest,’ doesn’t it?
In this humble world, there’s no room for peacock-like pride or narcissistic navel-gazing. Instead, it’s all about putting others first, stepping back to let them shine, lending a hand without expecting a high-five in return.
This might sound like a fantasy world, but it’s actually the Kingdom that Jesus invites us into. In Philippians 2:3, we’re called to value others above ourselves, to serve humbly as part of our divine assignment.
This isn’t a call to think less of ourselves, but to think of ourselves less. It’s about swapping the ‘me-first’ mentality with a ‘you-first’ mindset.
Now, you might be thinking, “Easier said than done!” And you’d be right!
Humility isn’t a one-and-done deal. It’s more like a muscle that needs regular workouts. But the good news is, every act of kindness, every selfless decision, every moment we choose others over ourselves, that muscle gets stronger.
So, are you ready to flex your humility muscles and answer the King’s call to a ‘you-first’ life?
