Devotion for Today
The Call to Obedience
Consider a loving father teaching his little daughter how to ride a bike. He instructs her to wear a helmet, keep her hands on the handlebars, and her feet on the pedals. He tells her not to go too fast and to be aware of her surroundings.
Why does he give these commands? Is it to restrict her fun or control her actions?
No, it’s out of love. The father, knowing the potential dangers, gives these instructions to protect his daughter and enable her to enjoy the freedom of bike riding safely.
Our relationship with God is similar. In John 14:15, Jesus tells us, “If you love me, keep my commands.”
God’s commands are not arbitrary rules designed to restrict us. Instead, they come from a place of divine love and wisdom. They are meant for our good, to guide us, protect us, and help us live life to the fullest.
Obedience to God’s commands is part of our divine assignment. It’s an expression of our love for Him, a way to honor Him, and a path to true freedom and abundant life. When we choose to obey God, we’re not just following rules; we’re acknowledging His wisdom, trusting His love, and aligning ourselves with His perfect plans.
