Devotion for Today
The Call to Perseverance
Imagine a marathon runner. From the start, the road is long and the journey arduous. There are moments of exhaustion, pain, and doubt. But the runner presses on, one step at a time, eyes fixed on the finish line. They understand that finishing the race requires persistence and determination.
In our spiritual journey, we are much like that marathon runner. Hebrews 12:1 reminds us that we are running a race marked out for us by God. This race, our divine assignment, is not always easy. There will be challenges, obstacles, and times when we feel like giving up.
However, we are encouraged to run with perseverance, to throw off everything that hinders us, and to keep moving forward. We’re not asked to sprint or to be the fastest; we’re called to be persistent, to endure, and to stay the course.
The good news is that we don’t run this race alone. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—those who have run the race before us and can attest to God’s faithfulness. More importantly, we have Jesus, our perfect pacesetter, and the ultimate finisher of our faith.
So, let’s embrace the call to perseverance. Let’s keep running the race, trusting that God will give us the strength to endure, and believing that the finish line will be well worth the journey.
