Devotion for Today
The Righteousness of Christ
The Bible has so much to say about righteousness, but it all boils down to the fact that, without Jesus, none of us can be righteous on our own. Our righteousness comes from faith in Jesus. Romans 3:10 says, “As it is written: ‘None is righteous, no, not one.’” And everyone who believes in Christ is righteous. Romans 3:21-23 says it this way, “But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
We all have the righteousness of Christ credited to us. We can’t do it on our own, but through Him we are righteous. That puts a whole new spin on the way we live our lives—with humility. It changes our relationships with others because they also are children of God. It changes everything.
Prayer of Gospel Gratitude
Father God, thank You for crediting me with the righteousness of Christ through faith. Help me remember my righteousness comes from Him, that I can’t mess it up, and I don’t deserve it, but it’s mine, anyway.
