Speaking of the Feet of Jesus

Philippians 2:10 says that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. The legion of demons we find in Luke 8 is a perfect example of that. As soon as the man who was possessed saw Jesus, he fell at His feet and proclaimed Jesus as Lord. “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?” (v.28).

The legion of demons begged Jesus not to cast them into the abyss, but into a herd of pigs. And that’s what happened, but the man Jesus cast them out of remained at the feet of Jesus. That’s what I want to sit with today.

When the townspeople came to see what had happened, they found the formerly demon-possessed man in his right mind and sitting at the feet of Jesus (v. 35). The towns’ people begged Jesus to leave, and the man begged Jesus to take him with Him. But instead of granting the man’s request, Jesus encouraged him to stay where he was and proclaim the goodness of God.

And I wonder, how many of us find ourselves where this man was? We don’t really need more of Jesus (He already gave us everything—2 Peter 1:3), but we need to make more of Him. We need to let Him permeate our lives and speak about Him with our lips.

My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 66:16. It says, “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.” When was the last time you told someone what Jesus has done for your soul? In Luke 19, Jesus was speaking of His disciples and said, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out” (v. 40).

We aren’t all called to leave our homes and follow Jesus to the ends of the earth, but we can sit at His feet each day and then tell others about the goodness of God.
