Wisdom and Integrity
Why is it better to be poor than rich? That’s not really the question we should be asking. Instead, the true focus is on whether or not we have integrity.
Whether we are rich or poor doesn’t matter as much as if we live with integrity. That’s why Mark 10:25 says, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” It’s not about the money, it’s about the heart. But it’s easier to get rich if you are crooked in your ways. Even just a little bit. First you cut one corner, then another. Before you know it surfing the web while you’re at work is second nature. Fibbing on your timecard gets easier. And lying to your boss doesn’t phase you.
Integrity matters. Not just because it’s the right thing to do. But because if you know the right thing to do and fail to do it… that’s sin (James 4:17) and sin separates us from God.
