Envy vs Wisdom

Do you remember the old saying, “What goes in is what comes out”? That is especially true when it comes to the people around us. They impact the person we become. Whether they constantly use foul language or are just negative by nature, they can have a profound influence on us.

1 Corinthians 15:33 says it this way, “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” And Proverbs 13:20 says this, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Moreso, 1 Thessalonians 5:11 urges us to encourage one another and build each other up. We can’t do that if we are surrounded by negativity.

That doesn’t mean we need to cut off negative people from our lives completely, but we should be mindful of how much time we spend with them. And make an effort to surround ourselves with other Christians who can build us up.
