Do not fear, only believe
Mark 5:36
Devotion for Today
He’d finally made it.
The man known as Jesus of Nazareth was right in front of him. This was it. This was his chance.
So he fell, face-down, at the feet of Jesus.
“My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” Jairus knew the Pharisees and other synagogue leaders weren’t happy with Jesus, but Jairus saw Him as his only hope.
And Jesus did it. He immediately started towards Jairus’ home intent on fulfilling his request.
Only Jairus wasn’t the only one who saw Jesus as their only hope. Before they’d traveled far, Jesus stopped. Someone else had counted on Him for healing. Before they even finished the new situation, one of Jairus’ house came with a report. His daughter had passed away. There was no longer a reason to bother Jesus.
However, Jesus didn’t let it go. “Do not fear, only believe.”
Jairus wasn’t quite sure what to think at this point, but he allowed Jesus to come to his home.
When they arrived, Jesus told the family that the girl wasn’t dead, but merely asleep. Could it be?
“Little girl, I say to you arise.”
And she did.
Jairus’ daughter got up and began walking.
He knew Jesus was the answer.
Have you ever been where Jairus was?
He fell at the feet of Jesus looking for hope for the hopeless.
And that’s something we can do too.
I don’t know what your day looks like, but if you’re feeling lost or out of options, I encourage you to fall at the feet of Jesus. Even if your situation looks a little hopeless, Jesus is right there waiting to join you in the trenches. Whispering to your heart, “Do not fear, only believe.”
