The Call to Discipleship
The call to discipleship is the devotion for today. It’s designed to help you dig into God’s Word, spend time with the One who created you, and let Jesus invade your life.
Bible Verse for Today
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
Matthew 4:19 (NIV)

The Call to Discipleship
Matthew 4:19 presents us with an invitation from Jesus that is not only deeply personal but also profoundly transformative. He calls out to us across the centuries, urging us to follow Him, just as He once urged Simon Peter and Andrew on the shores of Galilee.
This call isn’t merely about belief or acknowledgment of His divinity. It’s a beckoning towards discipleship—a journey of learning from Him, imitating Him, and eventually becoming like Him. It implies leaving behind our former lives, our familiar comfort zones, and venturing into the unknown with Jesus.
What’s truly remarkable about this invitation is that it doesn’t demand perfection or complete understanding from the outset. It’s a call to transformation—a process that takes place gradually as we walk alongside Jesus.
“Follow me,” He says, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
The change, the growth, happens in the ‘following,’ in the day-to-day journey with Him.
This discipleship has a purpose beyond individual spiritual growth. When we respond to His call, we’re not only followers; we become ‘fishers of men.’ We are entrusted with the mission of bringing others into the fold, of sharing the life-altering news of Jesus Christ with the world.
