Scriptures for Chronic Pain

ByHeather Hart

Are you looking for Scriptures for chronic pain?

I have struggled with chronic migraines for over eight years. Over that time, I’ve compiled a list of Scriptures I cling to when I’m in pain. I share them in this post.

If you’d like to read more about my struggle with chronic pain, I have shared my journey on my author website here.

35 Scriptures for Chronic Pain

Note: All Scriptures (unless otherwise noted) are from The Holy Bible, English Standard Version. ESV® Text Edition: 2016. Copyright © 2001 by Crossway Bibles, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Scriptures marked WEB are taken from the World English Bible which is in the Public Domain.

1.) Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

2.) Isaiah 41:10

fear not, for I am with you;
    be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

3.) 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

4.) Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

5.) Psalm 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

6.) Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

7.) 1 Corinthians 10:13

8.) Matthew 11:28

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

9.) Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

10.) Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

11.) Colossians 1:9-12

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

12.) Hebrews 4:15-16

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

13.) James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
