The Call to Servanthood
Ken was a skilled architect who designed beautiful, functional, and award-winning buildings. One day, he decided to volunteer at a local community center. Instead of designing grand structures, he found himself building simple wooden benches and tables. When asked why such a renowned architect would spend time on these humble tasks, he replied, “I am using my skills to serve those in need. This is where I find true fulfillment.”
Just like this architect, we are called to serve in God’s Kingdom. In Mark 10:45, Jesus, the King of kings, sets the ultimate example of servanthood. Despite His divine status, He came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.
We are called to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, embracing the role of a servant. This might seem counterintuitive in a world that often values power, status, and self-promotion. Yet, in the upside-down kingdom of God, greatness is found in serving others, and fulfillment is found in giving of ourselves.
Serving isn’t about what we do; it’s about the love with which we do it. Whether we’re helping a neighbor, volunteering at a community center, or praying for a friend, we’re answering the call to servanthood.
So, let’s embrace our calling to serve, remembering that every act of service, no matter how small, echoes in eternity when done in the name of our King.
