The Call to Unity

ByHeather Hart

The Call to Unity is the devotion for today. It’s designed to help you dig into God’s Word, spend time with the One who created you, and let Jesus invade your life.

Bible Verse for Today

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)

Devotion for Today

The Call to Unity

Imagine a group of musicians in an orchestra. Each one plays a different instrument: violins, cellos, flutes, trumpets, drums, and so on. Individually, each instrument can make beautiful music. But when they all play together in harmony under the direction of the conductor, they create a symphony that is far more beautiful and powerful than what any individual instrument could produce.

The body of Christ is like that orchestra. We are all different, with unique gifts, talents, backgrounds, and perspectives. Yet, we are all called to play together in harmony under the direction of our divine Conductor, Jesus Christ.

In Ephesians 4:3, Paul exhorts us to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This doesn’t mean we will always agree on everything or that our differences will disappear. It means that despite our differences, we choose to work together, to love one another, and to seek the common goal of glorifying God and advancing His kingdom.

Unity in the body of Christ isn’t just a nice ideal; it’s a vital aspect of our calling. It’s how we reflect the nature of our Triune God—three Persons in perfect unity. It’s how we show the world the transforming power of the gospel.

So, let’s embrace our call to unity. Like the musicians in the orchestra, let’s use our unique gifts in harmony with others, creating a beautiful symphony of love, grace, and peace that glorifies our King.
