A Footnote at the Feet of Jesus
As Jesus was on His journey, and crowds flocked to Him with their sick. They laid them at His feet, and He healed them. That’s it. This account in the book of Matthew is almost a footnote. Almost like it was no big deal for Jesus.
Three verses, that’s all this amounts to. But it’s the last sentence that really gets me: “And they glorified the God of Israel” (Matthew 5:31).
Yes, Jesus was healing the sick. He was giving sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf. He made the lame walk and mute speak. He was doing all of that and more. But He was doing it all for the glory of God.
And I wonder, when I come to the feet of Jesus, am I doing it for the glory of God?
So often I come to Jesus seeking refuge, comfort, or some sort of takeaway. I’m looking for something for myself.
I don’t think that’s 100% wrong. That’s what the people in this passage were after. And Jesus gave it to them. But He gave them that and a little bit more.
He gave them healing, and He gave God glory.
We can find both at the feet of Jesus. So today, I’m praying you come to the feet of Jesus and get what you’re searching for, but I also hope you give God the glory.
He gave them healing, and He gave God glory. Share on X
