Because He Lives We Can Rest in Jesus
Because He Lives We Can Rest in Jesus
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
Devotion for Today
Before Jesus came, people were constantly working to keep the law of God. I imagine it was exhausting to preform all the burnt offerings, peace offerings, grain offerings, drink offerings, and wave offerings. I’m exhausted just writing them out and that doesn’t even get into all 613 laws the Jews had to keep or the cleansing rituals, etc.
But when Jesus came, He fulfilled all those offerings as the Lamb of the world (John 1:29).
Because He died and rose again, we can find our rest in Jesus.
While God calls us to be holy (1 Peter 1:16), we are covered by the blood of Christ. Our righteousness isn’t because of anything we do, but because of what He did for us.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Whenever we get overwhelmed or exhausted, God doesn’t tell us to do more, be better, or achieve perfection. Instead, we are invited to find our rest in Jesus. He’s already fulfilled the law for us. All we need to do is trust in Him.
Our redeemer lives.
