Devotion for Today
Jesus Died for Us
In the beginning, humankind lived in fellowship with God. They walked with Him in the garden of Eden and all of creation lived in harmony.
We shattered our relationship with Jesus when we chose to betray His love for us. We knew what God wanted from us, but we doubted His intentions. The first sin happened there in the garden, but it wasn’t the only sin. From that moment, mankind was marked by sin.
Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” but that excludes Jesus. He’s the only one who could live a perfect life, because He was both fully man and fully God. That enabled Him to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That’s what I’m thankful for. That Jesus died on the cross for our sins—past, present, and future. Because of Him, we can live a life reunited with God. He restored the fellowship and harmony we gave up back in the garden.
No, life isn’t always easy, but we can live knowing we are saved. And that’s something to be thankful for.
